Like many of us at Fathom, Sydney Ziemer-Davis’ career is a mosaic of experiences in which she has explored passions, tried new things, and built an abundance of skills and knowledge. In her role as a senior user experience consultant, Sydney will employe these talents to research, create, and test digital products and experiences for a wide range of Fathom clients.
Sydney’s career began with the completion of her theatre degree from New York University. She went on to work as a seamstress in costume shops and tv shows before stumbling into the world of sustainable and urban agriculture. In these passion areas for her, she managed everything from operations to events to program management and education, and began growing her knowledge of customer needs and experiences. Transitioning to the field of user experience was natural for Sydney, allowing her to bring these skills together — along with her appreciation for collaboration, an iterative approach, and findings structure from ambiguity. Over the last six years, she has honed her UX skills with clients that have spanned health care, telecom, manufacturing, non-profit, and more.
“I’m naturally curious and user experience is a great way to tap into that curiosity. I love how insights are revealed as a project progresses and a picture of the user needs comes into focus,” she says. “I’m excited to join Fathom and be part of a team of motivated and smart people with diverse experience and expertise in this field. I look forward to working with them and our clients to design better digital products and experiences for the people who use them.”
Kindness is central to how Sydney shows up the world. Her natural leadership skills and empathy are evident in her ability to ask smart questions and engage and teach others. She knows how to bring team members together to collaborate, ensure everyone’s voice is heard, and help them navigate barriers and challenges. Fathom clients will appreciate her big-picture thinking, attention to detail, and ability to turn complex data into an understandable and impactful insights.

Outside of work, Sydney can be found spending time in her garden tending to vegetables and plants she uses to create natural dyes for her sewing projects, and creating sewing tutorials and pattern reviews. She also enjoys spending time with her family and pets, listening to podcasts (she has great recommendations to share!), and mentoring up-and-coming UX designers.
